Lessons

These lessons will be based on your needs and your current level. This is why it is important for you
to let me know your present level or language knowledge as soon as possible.
This can be determined when we meet or before by answering the quiz in the contact page.

These lessons will teach you French using the 4 necessary skills:
Speaking, writing, listening and reading.

They are devised to the standards and recommendations of the TFLA certificate (Teaching Foreign Language to Adults), the FLE (Français Langue Étrangère) and using the latest methodology:
the Communicative Approach.

Lesson types and grading

Beginner: You estimate having a limited or no knowledge of French. In reality, you know more than you think! More than 3000 words are common to French and English and you probably already use many of them. Learn the basics for simple requests and daily life. Numbers, price, hours and key sentences to ask straightforward questions and understand the relevant answers. Abilities to organize a train or hotel booking, shopping and basic conversation. The essentials for resolving practical issues during a short visit or long holidays.

Intermediate: You have grasped the basics and wish to go further in your learning experience. You will be able to engage in more challenging conversations, understand French humour and share jokes with native speakers. You will master the ability to converse using most forms of the past, present and future. You will be able to read the newspapers with minimal effort, listen to the radio and watch TV.

Advanced: Vous êtes un francophile et la langue française n'a presque plus aucun secret pour vous!
You have reached a level that already lets you engage in debates and delve into cultural issues and current events. You will discover litterature, la Bande déssinée, cinema, politics and more. You will want to explore the many aspects and variations of the French language spoken throughout 'La Francophonie'.

Business French: These lessons can be started at any level providing your level is determined at the onset of the lessons. They will be taught as the other lessons but with more lexical geared towards French for Business: le français des affaires. When société means company and prime is bonus.

Exams and special cases: These lessons will be given to help you succeed an exam or take an emergency crash course in view of an urgent assignment to a French speaking country. Other cases such as help with specialized French will also be considered. For crash course and special cases give me sufficient warning to allow time to carry out the research and gather the relevant material.
